NHS

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and other psychotherapies are available on the NHS and in some cases you can refer yourself.

NHS psychological therapy is free to access however, there can be lengthy waiting times for treatment (typically at least 12 months), and treatment options (e.g. length of treatment) and delivery (e.g. face-to-face, telephone or video-call) can be limited. Access to services can be complicated by bureaucracy and you may see many different staff in different NHS settings.

Private psychotherapy is typically much quicker to access than NHS psychotherapy and more flexible, for instance if more sessions are needed these can be arranged and face-to-face work is prioritised. You will receive continuity of care with the same therapist throughout your straightforward treatment pathway and this will be in private, comfortable clinics.
